10 Year Vision for Kanamaluka/Tamar Estuary
The kanamaluka Tamar Estuary vision represents an extensive process of community and key stakeholder engagement 2021 and builds upon extensive scientific research and government collaboration through the Launceston City Deal. The three tiers of government and key representative bodies are involved in this regional project to enhance community access to the kanamaluka/Tamar Estuary and North Esk River and their surrounds, improve recreation and lifestyle opportunities, create economic development opportunities, and enhance the aesthetic values of Launceston’s urban waterways.
The extensive community consultation identified two key priority areas for the kanamaluka/Tamar Estuary:
Priority 1: creating a cultural and recreational precinct; and
Priority 2: the long-term sustainable management of sediment
Support requested
Ongoing recognition of the need for the kanamaluka/Tamar Estuary to be rejuvenated, revitalised, and renewed through a series of long-term project implementations aimed at improving cultural recognition, wastewater infrastructure, public amenity including recreation amenities, and natural assets including wetlands and vegetation.
