BAY OF FIRES MASTERPLAN
Tasmania is known for its beautiful natural landscapes that bring thousands of visitors to our island home year after year.
The Bay of Fires attracted more than 206,000 visitors from March 2020 to September 2021. Over the same period the top three attractions experienced;
Cradle Mountain - 266,000,
Freycinet – 276,000
Maria Island - 55,000.
The Bay of Fires is heavily promoted through State agencies like Tourism Tasmania’s campaigns for the Great Eastern Drive as well as their Come Down for Air campaign. There is no plan or strategy for dealing with this increased visitation.
Before the area is loved to death by increased visitation all stakeholders must work together proactively to ensure the sustainability of the area, environmentally, culturally, socially, and economically.
