GASTRONOMY NORTHERN TASMANIA

Gastronomy Northern Tasmania is the organisation behind our designation. It is a small volunteer board, to date, seed funded by seven northern councils – City of Launceston, West Tamar, Meander Valley, George Town, Dorset, Break O’Day, and Northern Midlands. In the past two years we have worked, innovated, and collaborated to maximise opportunities presented by the UNESCO designation. The program of work GNT undertakes aims to achieve positive change through:

  1. Food for People initiatives, addressing food literacy and security in our regional communities,

  2. Food Industry Innovation, enabling positive change relating to UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals,

  3. Knowledge Sharing,

  4. Leveraging, the designation through marketing and related promotions to build the reputation of our place.

We do not work alone. Across Northern Tasmania’s regional bodies and the business community, there is recognition that our UNESCO designation represents a significant opportunity yet to be realised. Collaborators include Northern Tasmania Development Corporation, Visit Northern Tasmania, Launceston Central City, Launceston Chamber of Commerce, NRM North, northern councils and RDA Tasmania.
