MULTI-PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTRE

The project will involve the construction of a purpose-built multi-purpose community centre (MPCC) at MRC’s existing property at 19-25 Haig St, Mowbray, Tasmania. The completed MPCC will comprise a combination of new structures and re-purposed existing buildings and include offices, training rooms, space for social enterprises, function areas, a commercial kitchen, playgroup facilities, a tranquility garden and community support facility.

The intended outcomes of the project are:

  • A resilient community in Northern Tasmania through the provision of much needed social and community facilities;

  • Improved community amenity, accessibility and livability through investment in community infrastructure; and

  • Economic and social growth in Launceston and the broader region.

Support requested

  • Northern Tasmania to continue to be a viable settlement location for Australia's Humanitarian Program

  • Recognition of the importance of experienced place-based organisations to welcome new arrivals and implement a successful settlement program

  • Funding to meet any unexpected financial gaps that may arise to complete the MPCC in its entirety
